Tasting note
Château Rauzan-Gassies was part of the huge Rauzan estate which was divided up towards the end of the 18th century. The name "Gassies" comes from the noble Gassies family of which Gaillard de Tarbes was feudal lord in 1530. The "Rauzan" part of the name comes from the famous Counsellor at the Bordeaux Parliament in the mid 17th century. Monsieur de Rauzan was able to promote his already famous wine at the courts of France and England. The château was purchased by the Quié family in 1945.Most of the vineyards are located around the château on a former river bed of the Garonne. The average altitude is 15 to 18 m. The soil is just about a complete cross-section of the local geology: deep gravel, sandy gravel and sand. Grape varieties are as follows: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The fermenting vats are made of stainless steel and the wine is traditionally aged in oak barrels. Annual production varies from 100-140,000 bottles
