Château La Verrerie lies on the edge of the Luberon Regional Park in Provence. Situated between the Côtes du Rhône to the north and the Côte de Provence to the south, this estate was founded in 1981. Jean-Louis Descours, drawn to this terroir of olive groves and lavender fields, built a winery and planted vines on the edge of the Durance valley. The first wines were released in 1985. The AOC Lubéron was awarded to the wines in 1988. Since then, the desire to produce exceptional wines and preserve the environment surrounding Château La Verrerie has led the owners to convert the estate to organic farming in 2010.
The vineyards of Château La Verrerie are located in the heart of the Luberon valley, in Puget. The estate covers almost 150 hectares in total, including 53 hectares of vines planted on clay-limestone soils. There are 45 hectares of red grape varieties. Syrah dominates, accompanied by Cinsault and Carignan. The 8 hectares of white vineyards are planted with Viognier, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc.
Château La Verrerie's commitment to organic viticulture means that it does not use any synthetic products, because of its taste for beauty and respect for the terroir.
Château La Verrerie has made a name for itself with its red wines, made mainly from Syrah grapes. The cuvée du Grand Deffant made its international reputation. Today, Château La Verrerie's rosé is one of the finest in the AOC Luberon appellation.
