Description
A well-balanced and flavoursome Piedmont red wine
The estate
Owned by the Antinori family, the Prunotto estate produces fine Italian wines from a 50-hectare vineyard that spreads over the finest agricultural areas of Piedmont.
The wine
Barbera d'Alba 2020 is made from a rigorous selection of vineyards with sandy-clay soils located in an area known for its microclimate. These conditions give this wine its unique character.
The vintage
A mild winter with little rainfall preceded a dry and sunny spring, which favoured vegetative growth. Although the heavy rainfall in May and June greatly slowed down the development of the vines, it ensured healthy water reserves during a hot summer. The pleasant weather conditions in September, alternating sunny days and cool nights, allowed for optimal ripening and an exceptional state of health. The harvested grapes had a very good balance between sugar, acidity and phenolic compounds.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are 100% destemmed before being crushed. Skin maceration between 5 and 7 days. The end of malolactic fermentation in mid-December is followed by a short ageing in oak barrels. Blending of the individual lots in the spring before bottling.
The blend
Produced in the DOC Barbera d'Alba appellation, this fine red wine is a 100% Barbera, an emblematic indigenous black grape variety from Piedmont.
