Description

The intensity and sophistication of a red wine from Tuscany

The estate

Founded in 1968 after the merging of 5 estates, Castellare di Castellina is one of the most beautiful references for Tuscan wines. Recognised for their quality, the estate’s wines are unique in their exceptional terroir and in their label, where the bird represents the estate’s deep respect for the local nature.

The vineyard

Located at the heart of the Chianti region, the vineyard is spread over 80 hectares, near the small village of Castellina. At the top of a natural amphitheatre, this terroir, planted on clay-limestone soils, produces ample, powerful wines with significant ageing potential.

Winemaking and ageing

Following the harvest in mid-October, the grapes are vinified in steel tuns. Ageing lasts for 24 to 30 months in barrels (of which 50% are new). Bottling is followed by an additional ageing time of 12 months before being put on the market.

Blend

The 2014 Toscana Sodi di S Niccolo from the Castellare di Castellina estate is made from Sangiovese (85% - locally named as Sangiovieto) and Malvasia Nera (15%).

Tasting

Colour

The wine is an intense ruby red colour.

Nose

The concentrated nose reveals fragrances of ripe red fruits, jam, spices, vanilla and liquorice.

Palate

Ample and elegant, the palate seduces with its fine tannins as well as its long and persistent finish.

Food and wine pairings

The 2014 Toscana Sodi di S Niccolo from the Castellare di Castellina estate goes perfectly with cold meats, platters and even mature cheese (Tuscan pecorino, parmesan).
