Château Montus Prestige 2016: a slender and balanced red wine from Madiran

A 100% Tannat produces in the Madiran appellation, Château Montus Prestige benefits from vines aged 30 years on average, planted on soils on steep slopes covered with rounded pebbles and subsoils of brown and orange clay. The wine is only aged in new barrels for 24 months.

The climatic conditions of the 2016 vintage at Château Montus were marked by a mild winter and spring, leading to an early development of the vines. The observed progress was balanced by a more lukewarm and rather dry summer, correcting the initial precocity of the vine. Finally, the ripening of the grapes was helped significantly by rain in September, resulting in optimal harvests.

The 2016 vintage of Château Montus Prestige shows itself to be more accessible than its usual, very powerful style. The nose reveals aromas of black fruits and mocha with subtle menthol notes. In this rich wine of remarkable volume, the concentration is well balanced.
