Description
A Barolo wine showcasing a seductive complexity and elegance
The estate
Located in the village of La Morra, the Cordero Di Montezemolo estate is an iconic reference in the Langhe wine area, in the north of Piedmont in Italy.
The vineyard
Cordero Di Montezemolo watches over a vineyard comprised of nearly 51 hectares, situated in the exceptional terroirs of the Barolo appellation. The estate's wines are renowned well beyond the Italian borders for their complexity, power and great ageing potential.
The wine
Produced within the Barolo appellation, Cordero di Montezemolo's 2018 Bricco Gattera is made from a selection of old vines (between 30 and 60 years old) spread over 3 vineyards in the Gattera area.
South-east facing and situated at an altitude of 280 metres, this 1-hectare terroir is composed of soils that are rich in magnesium and manganese, made up of silt, clay and sand.
The vinification and ageing
Hand-picked at the beginning of October, the grapes are fermented and macerated in stainless steel tanks for about 10 days. Following the racking process, malolactic fermentation is carried out in different-sized barrels from France and Slavonia. The wine is aged for 18 to 19 months in barrels, followed by a further 18 to 20 months of bottle ageing before being released.
The blend
This 2018 Bricco Gattera from Cordero di Montezemolo is a 100% Nebbiolo.
