Description
A delicate and balanced Bolgheri white wine by Grattamacco
The estate
The Grattamacco estate was founded in 1977 in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany. This "Super Tuscan" estate has belonged to the Bertarelli family since 2002. Grattamacco is one of the key references of the Bolgheri Superiore appellation and of fine Italian wines.
The wine
This Grattamacco 2019 white wine is made from old Bolgheri vineyards, some of which are around thirty-five years old. They lie on clay-limestone and marl soils.
The terroir is located at an altitude of 100 metres on a natural terrace overlooking the sea and thus, benefits from both a Mediterranean climate and regular sea breezes. These conditions are ideal for producing a wine that expresses the authenticity and character of this great Tuscan terroir.
The vinification and ageing
In order to pick the grapes at optimum ripeness, various factors are taken into account in order to determine the harvesting period. The vinification is carried out 50% in barrels and 50% in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for eight months along with stirring of the lees.
The vintage
2019 was marked by a particularly hot summer, offset by a significant amount of rainfall which benefited the vineyard at the end of July. Although August and September were punctuated by rainy spells, the heavy sunshine thereafter was balance out by regular wind and temperature variations, all of which favoured the optimal ripening of the grapes.
The blend
This Grattamacco 2019 white wine is a 100% Vermentino.
The tasting
Colour
The wine is a beautiful straw yellow colour with bright green highlights.
Nose
The nose gives off fragrances of citrus fruit, Mediterranean herbs and broom flowers.
Palate
A beautiful minerality, the palate is seduced by the wine’s balance and aromatic richness as well as its creamy texture conferred by the ageing on lees.
Food and wine pairing
This Tuscan white wine will complement fish, cold cured meat, white meats and soft cheeses.
