Description
An exceptional vintage for this elegant and aromatic Chablis Premier Cru
The estate
It was indeed meeting his wife-to-be and future family-in-law, winegrowers in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, that introduced Jean-Marc Brocard, an engineer at the time, to viticulture and wine production. Jean-Marc Brocard planted his first vines in Préhy, in the heart of the Chablis vineyards in 1973.
His son, Julien, joined the estate in 1995 and swiftly developed a passion for biodynamic practices, which he gradually applied to the estate's plots.
Rightfully regarded as an expert on his terroir in Chablis, Jean-Marc Brocard is convinced that the utmost respect for the land must remain the foundation of his work and ethos. Thus, he has always endeavoured to apply ecological principles, to restrict human intervention and to reveal all the authenticity of the Chablis climats. These practices result in structured, pure and mineral wines.
Truly in tune with the times, Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard is one of the most important and influential producers of organic wines in Burgundy today.
The vineyard
A reference among the great wines of Chablis, Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard reigns over a vineyard of more than 140 hectares. Comprising Chardonnay vines that are 40 years old on average, the vineyard includes the appellations Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, Chablis Grand Cru.
The wine
The Montée de Tonnerre climate is the most typical Premier Cru of the Chablis appellation.
Produced from plots close to the Grands Crus valley, this cuvée possesses minerality, power, subtle floral notes and a beautiful minerality. The structure of this cuvée makes it a great wine for laying down.
The vintage
The weather conditions throughout the 2019 vintage ranged from mild to hot and dry. The mild winter and high summer temperatures favoured very good ripening. The harvest began 100 days after flowering. After a quality harvest above the average for the appellation, the fruity and floral aromas of the first juices suggest a fine vintage, which will be confirmed throughout the vinification process. The estate's Cellar Master describes the 2019 vintage as "the most beautiful vintage ever".
Vinification and ageing
The wine is aged for 12 months, 100% in casks.
The blend
Chardonnay (100%).
