The estate
Situated south of Bordeaux, in Pessac, Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux. The château takes its name from Pope Clement V who developed the wine-growing activity of the property in the 13th century. Château Pape Clément produces wines whose reputation has been established for more than seven centuries. Owned by Bernard Magrez, Château Pape Clément stands out among the greatest estates of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The vineyard dedicated to the production of the Prélat de Pape Clément 2019 cuvée covers 8.5 hectares of vines aged 30 years on average, located in the municipalities of Cérons, Illats and Podensac. The vines are planted in deep gravel soils on limestone strata. The vineyard has earned the Terra Vitis and HVE 3 labels (High Environmental Value level 3) as well as an SME certification.
The winemaking
Filling of the pneumatic press manually, followed by pressing in whole bunches with a slow increase of the pressure. Drainage of the juices into racking tanks and vinification in stainless steel tanks and in French oak barrels.
The ageing
Ageing on fine lees with regular stirring of the lees.
The blend
Produced in the Graves appellation, the Le Prélat de Pape Clément 2019 is made from a blend of 73% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc, 11% Sauvignon Gris, 1% Muscadelle.
