M. Chapoutier : Bila-Haut Chrysopée 2019

A 127-case blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Mourvèdre from schist soils, the 2019 Collioure Chrysopée boasts knockout aromas of crushed stone, redcurrants and blood oranges. It's medium to full-bodied, framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins, with a long, savory finish redolent of asphalt and black olives.

A pure and juicy nose with cherries, raspberries and baking spices. Medium body with fine, firm tannins. Well-framed and crisp at the center. Fruity and stony toward the flavorful, long finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

All about finesse and elegance (which is what this appellation tends to deliver), the 2019 Collioure Chrysopée is 85% Grenache and 15% Mourvèdre that spent 14 months in 80% concrete tanks and 20% in demi-muids. Its medium ruby/purple color is followed by stunning notes of blackberries, black raspberries, iodine, wildflowers, and bouquet garni. I love its complexity on the nose, and this medium to full-bodied 2019 has remarkable purity of fruit, silky tannins, and a great finish. As always with this cuvée, it’s a singular wine that I’d be thrilled to have in the cellar. Drink bottles any time over the coming 7-8 years.
