The estate
Boasting a rich history that harks back to 1909, the M. Lapierre estate is a family-owned estate that has been ran from generation to generation with a pioneering approach to vine growing and viticulture.
Although the estate produced wines for the Fleurie cooperative, Camille Lapierre started selling the wine in barrels to local restaurant owners in 1941. In the 1960s, Camille Lapierre sold his wines under his own name and increased the size of the estate.
The estate started a new chapter in its history in 1981 when Marcel Lapierre, Camille's son, who had been at the helm of the estate since 1973, decided to run his vineyard exclusively using biodynamic practices and to vinify without the use of SO2 or yeast.
Marcel Lapierre's children, Mathieu and Camille, currently perpetuate their father's work.
The vineyard
This wine by the M.Lapierre estate is a Morgon wine that stems from a 15-hectare vineyard. The vines, which are around 70 years old, are planted on nutrient-poor soils composed predominantly of granite.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted. Semi-carbonic maceration without SO2 or yeast for 10 to 21 days. The wine is aged in old 216-litre barrels for 9 months. The wine is bottled in two different ways, the first without filtration but with the addition of sulphites and the second without filtration or addition of sulphites.
