Description
A smooth and rich fine Ribera del Duero wine by Vega Sicilia
The estate
Since its acquisition by the Álvares family in 1982, Vega Sicilia has continued to grow and establish its international reputation.Today, a constant search for excellence, a symbiotic harmony with nature, rigour and dedication make this Spanish estate a prestigious reference. Over the years, other wineries like Pintia have embraced and enhanced the philosophy of Vega Sicilia. Thus, the extreme care provided both in the vineyards and throughout the winemaking process leads to the production of fine Spanish wines from the most unique lands.
The vineyard
Situated alongside the Duero River, the 210 hectares of vineyards are divided into three grape varieties: Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. 140 hectares of this production are reserved for the production of Valbuena and Unico, while the rest is destined for the production of Alión. The vines grown on this clay-limestone terroir are 36 years old on average.
The wine
The name of Vega Sicilia's Valbuena 5 Ano 2017 comes from its long ageing phase, lasting 5 years.
The vinification and ageing
Harvesting by hand enables the selection of the vineyard’s very best grapes. Fermentation is carried out at temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with local yeast. The wine is then aged in oak barrels (in casks then in tuns) for 5 years.
The blend
Vega Sicilia's Valbuena 5 Ano 2017 comprises a blend of Tempranillo (94%) and Merlot (6%).
