The estate
Founded in 1720 by cooper Edme Champy, Champy remains Burgundy’s oldest négociant-éleveur House. Based in the heart of Beaune in 15th-century cellars, it farms 21 hectares of vines in the Côte de Beaune. Owned by the Advini group and run by Dimitri Bazas since 2014, Champy has established itself as a benchmark in Burgundian organic viticulture, with 50% of the vineyard organic certified and 50% certified Haute Valeur Environnementale.
The vineyard
The Climat Les Vergelesses lies on the hillsides of the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune, in the northern part of the Côte de Beaune. The vines thrive between 250 and 350 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils that lend the wine its characteristic structure and minerality.
Vinification and ageing
After hand harvesting, the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Les Vergelesses" 2013 is vinified using traditional Burgundian methods. Ageing takes place in oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving the expression of the terroir.
