Characteristics and tasting advice for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Domaine 2020 from Poisot Père & Fils

Tasting

Appearance

A pale golden hue with green highlights characterizes this young, high-quality white Burgundy wine.

Nose

The bouquet stands out for its infinite delicacy, revealing buttery tones alongside aromas of baked apple, citrus fruits and pineapple. Herbal notes of linden and fern intertwine with spicy nuances of cinnamon and juniper, while a mineral touch of flint completes this complex aromatic palette.

Palate

Powerful and generous, the palate fills the mouth with intense expressions. The structure is rich and concentrated, carried by a fine minerality that balances the fruit’s opulence. Overall, it shows a remarkable balance between aromatic generosity and mineral freshness, offering a persistent, harmonious finish.

Food and wine pairings

This Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 pairs perfectly with fine shellfish such as lobster, crayfish or crab. It also elegantly accompanies foie gras, poultry and veal in a white sauce, as well as cooked-pressed cheeses and blue cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

Serve this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. Depending on cellaring conditions, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2035.

The estate

The Domaine Poisot Père & Fils traces its origins back to 1902, when Marie Poisot inherited parcels of vineyards following the death of her father, Louis Latour. After several generations of family succession, Rémi Poisot took over the estate in June 2010 after a twenty-eight-year career in the French Navy. Based in Aloxe-Corton in Côte de Beaune, this small family estate now farms around two hectares of vines, including three Grand Cru parcels and one Premier Cru parcel—an exceptionally prestigious configuration for a property of this size. Certified Haute Valeur Environnementale since 2019, the estate practices environmentally respectful viticulture and minimalist winemaking, favoring the authentic expression of the terroir.

The vineyard

The Corton-Charlemagne from Domaine Poisot Père & Fils comes from a 0.57-hectare parcel located high on the Corton hill, at around 300 meters in altitude. Facing southeast and overlooking the village of Ladoix-Serrigny, this parcel benefits from limestone soils with white marl, typical of the terroirs dedicated to white wines on this hill. The Chardonnay vines, around fifty years old, thrive on steep slopes with a 20 to 23% gradient. Natural grass cover limits erosion, while phytosanitary treatments are applied sparingly under a reasoned approach. Leaf thinning on one side promotes ventilation around the clusters and limits the development of botrytis.

The vintage

The year 2020 in Burgundy featured particular weather conditions that influenced vine development and grape ripening, making it possible to produce balanced wines that express the characteristics of the terroir.

Vinification and aging

The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 harvest is carried out by hand, with the grapes transported in small crates to preserve their integrity. After gentle pressing, the must is placed in stainless-steel tanks for 24 hours of settling before being transferred to oak barrels. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grapes. Aging takes place over 16 to 18 months in French barrels, 30% of which are new oak, with regular topping up. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is racked a first time around ten months after barreling, then a second time before bottling. The final blend is carried out in stainless-steel tanks for three to four weeks prior to bottling, which is done without filtration.
