The estate
Founded in 1797, Louis Latour is now represented by the 11th generation, headed by Louis-Fabrice Latour. As a négociant-éleveur, Louis Latour owns the largest estate of Grands Crus in Burgundy.
The vineyard
Located southwest of Romanée-Saint-Vivant, the "Les Quatre Journaux" plot enjoys superb exposure. The Latour family has owned part of this terroir since 1898 and today tends a 0.8-hectare vineyard producing a great Romanée-Saint-Vivant wine. The name "Les Quatre Journaux" refers to an old Burgundian unit of measurement, with one "Journal" equating to about 0.40 hectares. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are planted on iron-rich clay soils.
Vinification and aging
The hand-harvested grapes undergo traditional fermentation in open vats. Full malolactic fermentation. Aging lasts 10 to 12 months in new French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
