The Estate
Established in Puligny-Montrachet since 1635, Domaine Olivier Leflaive has upheld the tradition of great Burgundian wines by offering one of the finest expressions of Chardonnay in the world. At the forefront of an essential domain in Burgundy, Olivier Leflaive has become an emblematic figure of the Côte de Beaune. Gradually assembled, the Olivier Leflaive vineyard now spans 17 hectares of vines planted on the greatest terroirs of Burgundy.
The Vineyard
This Chassagne-Montrachet comes from vines located between 250 and 300 meters of altitude, on clay-limestone and clay-silt soils. The vineyard covers 86.13 hectares with vines averaging 36 years old. Sustainable viticulture and 100% manual harvesting fully express the character of this Burgundian appellation.
The Vintage
The year 2021 in Burgundy was marked by severe frosts from April 5 to 9 that reduced yields. A cool and wet spring in April and May slowed vegetative growth, followed by flowering in June under favorable conditions. Veraison began in mid-August and harvesting started on September 20. This challenging year required constant attention from the winemakers.
Vinification and Aging
The grapes for this Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2021 are 100% destemmed before alcoholic fermentation in open vats. Maceration lasts 17 days, followed by 16 months of aging including 4 months of mass Blend. Aging takes place entirely in barrels, 25% of which are new oak.
