Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Échezeaux Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin 2021 from Albert Bichot
Tasting
Appearance
The appearance displays a lively, brilliant ruby red, highlighted by beautiful cherry-red reflections.
Nose
The bouquet reveals great complexity, unveiling aromas of stone fruit such as cherry and plum, accompanied by floral notes reminiscent of rose and peony. Subtle spicy nuances enrich the whole. With aeration, the nose evolves towards tertiary scents of forest floor and leather.
Palate
On the palate, this wine seduces with its roundness and precision. The structure is delicate, supported by supple tannins that confer remarkable balance. The long and refined finish attests to the elegance of this Grand Cru.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with finely prepared meat dishes, whether roasted or served with sauce: beef, lamb, pork, or duck. It also goes wonderfully with characterful, medium to strong cheeses. The estate particularly recommends a guinea fowl salmis with mushroom sauce.
Service and cellaring
The 2021 Échezeaux Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin is ideally served at a temperature of 16 to 17°C. This wine has a cellaring potential of 7 to 10 years and beyond.
A Côte de Nuits Grand Cru from Albert Bichot
The estate
Founded in Monthélie in 1831 by Bernard Bichot, the Albert Bichot House is an essential reference for Burgundy wines. Based in Beaune since 1912, this family business, now managed by Albéric Bichot, brings together six estates covering over 100 hectares, including 13 hectares of Grands Crus and 26 hectares of Premiers Crus. A pioneer in organic farming, the House offers the largest selection of certified organic wines among the Beaune houses. As a historic supplier to the Swedish Royal Court and a founding patron of the Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne, Albert Bichot has embodied Burgundian excellence for nearly two centuries.
The vineyard
The Échezeaux Grand Cru comes from the Les Champs Traversins Climat in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux in the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard covers 1 hectare at an altitude of approximately 300 meters and faces east, on a slope that benefits from the cooling influence of the Combe d'Orveau. The soils consist of brown limestone, are very stony, and have an almost sandy texture. The vines, averaging 35 to 40 years old, allow for the production of high-quality grapes.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand, followed by rigorous sorting at the estate. Fermentation maceration takes place over 18 to 21 days in temperature-controlled wooden vats. The 2021 Échezeaux Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin is then aged for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, 40 to 50% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
This Burgundy wine is 100% Pinot Noir.
