Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Sorbets" 2022 from Albert Bichot
Tasting
Appearance
The appearance displays an intense red hue, characteristic of Pinot Noir grown on the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits.
Nose
The bouquet reveals a beautiful aromatic intensity with notes of red and black fruit such as cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry, accompanied by a subtle woody note. As the wine evolves, the nose becomes more complex, revealing aromas of spices, forest floor and leather.
Palate
On the palate, this Premier Cru is fleshy and full-bodied, offering a harmonious structure and remarkable balance. The finish is distinguished by its length, its silky texture and its persistent fruity accents.
Food and wine pairing
This Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Sorbets" 2022 is ideal with roasted meat or meat in sauce, particularly beef, lamb, duck and game. It also pairs very well with cheeses full of character, ranging from medium to strong. The estate particularly recommends a noisette of venison with mushroom sauce.
Service and storage
It is recommended to serve the Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Sorbets" 2022 at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. This wine has cellaring potential until 2029 and beyond, allowing it to develop even more complexity over time.
A Burgundy Premier Cru between power and elegance
The Estate
Founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot in the village of Monthélie, the Albert Bichot House is today a major reference for Burgundy wines. Under the management of Albéric Bichot since 1996, representing the sixth generation of the family, the House brings together six estates across Burgundy, including Long-Depaquit in Chablis, Clos Frantin and Le Pavillon in Pommard, covering more than 100 hectares, including 13 hectares of Grand Crus. Certified organic since 2014, Albert Bichot stands out for its pioneering environmental commitment and its status as a founding patron of the Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne.
The Vineyard
The "Les Sorbets" Climat is a Premier Cru in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis, a village located between Gevrey-Chambertin to the north and Chambolle-Musigny to the south, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. The vines grow at an altitude of about 250 meters on brown clay soils resting on a base of hard limestone and stony scree. The name "Les Sorbets" refers to the rowan tree, a tree recognizable by its orange-red fruit that used to grow on this terroir. The Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, covering 94 hectares with 41 hectares classified as Premier Cru, produces almost exclusively red wines from Pinot Noir. The style of wines from this commune represents a transition between the structured character of Gevrey-Chambertin and the elegance of Chambolle-Musigny.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage proved to be a very fine year for Burgundy, offering favourable conditions for the production of high-quality wines.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for the Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Sorbets" 2022 are harvested by hand and carefully sorted upon arrival at the winery. Vatting takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats over a period of 18 to 21 days. The wine is then aged for 16 to 17 months in oak barrels, with 35 to 40% new barrels, imparting structure and complexity while preserving the fruit expression.
