Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

A lush, polished style, whose texture is saturated with black cherry, blackberry, vanilla and toasty oak flavors. The underlying structure emerges on the lingering finish. Best from 2023 through 2038. 1,250 cases made, 180 cases imported.

James Suckling

Very attractive red-fruit nose with some floral notes and just a touch of smoky oak. An elegant wine for this appellation and you could easily mistake it for a Volnay. Very good depth, but also lovely freshness at the finish, which makes the tannins feel gentle. Long, elegant finish with a subtle, earthy touch. Albert Bichot’s Côtes de Beaune cellar is situated right next to this vineyard. Drink or hold.

Cask sample. Fairly light crimson. Light nose. The tannins have been handled so gently, I'm not sure I would recognise this as a Pommard. The fruit is really quite sweet in this wine and then there is some slightly pinched acidity. Rather a hole in the middle. Not one of Bichot's most winning 2019s, I feel. (JR)

Bettane+Desseauve

Notes of peony, stone fruits, and dark fruits, with a fresh, elegant body that starts supple and finishes a bit firmer: this is Pommard.

La RVF

A discreet nose, but the palate has real structure and lively fruit. It deserves to be left to mature quietly for a few years to absorb the pronounced oak that returns on the finish.

Wine Enthusiast

A.I.

Dustings of crushed stone, ash and violet petals introduce this red-berried, satiny sip sourced from the southern end of Pommard near Volnay. Red-cherry and red-plum flavors on the palate are ripe but youthful and pure, accented by hints of fur and smoke and a lingering frame of fine-grained, sharply lingering tannins. It should approach peak by 2023 and improve through at least 2035.

Description

The power and smoothness of a red wine from Burgundy

The property

While the history of the Bichot family dates back to 1214, it was in 1350 that they settled in Burgundy. The trading house created in Monthélie in 1831, under the impetus of Bernard Bichot, experienced a rapid rise during the 19th century, becoming notably the official supplier to the Court of Sweden.
As an independent and family-owned house, Albert Bichot is one of those great names that mark the viticultural landscape and the influence of Burgundy wines. Today, the 6th generation has been running the company since 1996, harmoniously blending modernity with family tradition.

The Albert Bichot house is today at the head of more than 100 hectares of vineyards, spread from north to south of Burgundy, and grouped into 6 prestigious estates: the Domaine Long-Depaquit, located in Chablis, in the Yonne, the Domaine du Clos-Frantin and Château Gris, both located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Domaine du Pavillon, in Pommard. Dedicated to the wines of Mercurey, it was in 2013 that the Domaine Adélie was bought by Albert Bichot. The estate bears this name in tribute to the first name of Albert Bichot's daughter, born in 2003, thus perpetuating the family heritage, from generation to generation. The beautiful vineyard of the Domaine de Rochegrès in the Moulin À Vent appellation joined the family business in 2014.

The vineyard

Located near the center of the village of Pommard, this Clos was initially the property of the sisters of the Ursuline convent. The "Clos des Ursulines" Monopole Domaine du Pavillon d’Albert Bichot is a Pommard wine Village from a plot of 3.75 hectares. Aged 30 to 40 years, the vines are planted on clay-limestone soils with white marl.

Vinification and aging

Harvested manually, the grapes are vinified in thermoregulated oak conical vats. The aging is carried out in oak barrels (of which 20% to 30% are new barrels) for 14 to 16 months.

Blend

Pinot noir (100%).
