Description
A lively and rich Veneto red wine
The estate
Allegrini, the largest producer in the Valpolicella appellation, is one of the most prestigious Italian references in the world. Established since the 16th century, the Allegrini family is at the helm of over 100 hectares of vines in the Veneto region.
Allegrini family's Amarone wines reflect a unique know-how passed down from generation to generation and boast a bold identity and a unique style.
The vineyard
Allegrini's Poja Corvina Veronese is a Veneto wine made from a rigorous selection of south-east facing vineyards that are poised at an altitude of 320 metres. The vines are 43 years old on average and are planted on clay and chalk soil.
The vintage
In Veneto, the 2017 vintage stands out due to its regularity. Spared from frost and hail, the vineyard benefited from a dry and windy climate. The thermal amplitudes between day and night during the weeks preceding the harvest ensure optimal ripening of the grapes as well as an excellent sanitary condition.
Vinification and ageing
Manual harvesting. After destemming and crushing, the grapes are fermented for 12 to 15 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with daily pumping over. Malolactic fermentation is carried out naturally. An initial 20-month ageing period in new Allier barrels, followed by 8 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, is completed by 10 months of bottle ageing.
The blend
Corvina Veronese (100%).
