A Langhe Nebbiolo true to Antinori - Prunotto’s Piedmontese elegance
The estate
Antinori - Prunotto is a historic house founded in 1904 in Alba, in the Piedmontese Langhe. Acquired in 1994 by the Antinori family and led by Albiera Antinori, the estate benefits from renowned technical expertise. The estate cultivates approximately 65 hectares across prestigious crus between Barolo and Barbaresco, combining Piedmontese tradition and Antinori savoir-faire with a parcel-by-parcel approach initiated in the 1960s.
The vineyard
Occhetti comes from vineyards located in the Langhe Nebbiolo DOC appellation, with soils composed of superficial sand, stratified gravel layers, and layers of clay and limestone. This distinctive geological composition imparts the wine’s signature elegance and silky tannins.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage was marked by warm, dry weather until mid-May, followed by abundant rainfall, particularly around Alba. Temperatures returned to normal in early July with several summer thunderstorms. These conditions led to lower yields without compromising the quality or ripeness of the grapes.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for Occhetti 2023 were destemmed and crushed upon arrival at the winery. Skin maceration lasted 7 days with a maximum temperature of 29°C. Malolactic fermentation finished before winter, followed by approximately 16 months of aging before bottling.
Grape variety
100% Nebbiolo, the emblematic grape of Piedmont, here revealing all its nobility and distinctive character.
