Description

A powerful and charming Chardonnay from an exceptional terroir

The estate

Daughter of one of the most prestigious wine families in Burgundy, Francine Picard took over the historically family-run estate in the late 1990s. The Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve spreads across the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, at the heart of the most beautiful climates and terroirs of Burgundy's wine region. With a desire for synergy between the earth and the wines, Francine Picard cultivates her plots respecting the principles of biodynamics and applies herself with passion and extreme attention to produce wines reflecting the identity of their terroir.

The vineyard

Located in the center of the village, the climate from which this wine from Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean originates is one of the oldest in Chassagne. The vines were mainly planted in the 1940s on gentle slopes, facing southeast with very red soils (iron oxide), light, shallow and not very stony.

The vintage

The beginning of 2022 in Burgundy is marked by a frost in April, impacting a vineyard partially protected by late bud break. Subsequently, the vineyard faced a particularly hot and dry summer. Despite these extreme conditions, 2022 reveals a qualitative and generous vintage giving birth to wines whose concentration and balance blend with a delicate alliance between suppleness and complexity.

Vinification and aging

Harvested and sorted by hand, the grapes are pressed whole. In pure respect of Burgundian tradition, alcoholic fermentation is carried out in barrels. The aging lasts 18 months on lees, including 10 months in oak (Burgundian piece).
