Description

An aromatic and generous Second Wine of Margaux

The property

This vineyard called "Hostein" in the 18th century was already at that time one of the most beautiful labels of the Médoc. At the head of Château Brane-Cantenac since 1992, Henri Lurton passionately perpetuates the wine adventure began by his ancestors, by combining tradition with the modernity through infrastructures designed to magnify the identity of the wines from this exceptional terroir of the Margaux appellation.

The vineyard

The Château de Brane-Cantenac vineyard derives its uniqueness from the terroir of the Brane plateau, which contributes to the elegant and aromatic signature of the property's wines.

The wine

Baron de Brane is the Second Wine of Château Brane-Cantenac. This wine is a tribute to Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane who was the owner of the vineyard in the 19th century. This Second Wine is made from plots located on the 3rd terrace with deep gravel and clayey gravel.

The vintage

2020 was marked by a warm winter followed by a hot spring, favouring early development of the vines but punctuated by significant mildew pressure. The particularly hot and dry summer conditions, including 53 days without rain, lead to a high concentration in the fruit and a reduction in yields due to very heterogeneous flowering. The strong heat of September was counterbalanced by cool nights. The sanitary condition of the vineyard was ideal when the harvest began.

Vinification and ageing

Blending of tanks carefully selected for their flexibility. Ageing lasted 12 months.

The blend

Baron de Brane 2020 is made from a blend of Merlot (58%), Cabernet Sauvignon (34%), Cabernet Franc (6%) and Petit Verdot (2%).
