Description
A great Italian red wine combining finesse and complexity
The estate
The adventure of Bertani, one of the leading producers in Veneto, began in 1857 when brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani settled in Quinto di Valpantena, north of Verona. Trained by the renowned Professor Guyot, Gaetano Bertani applied to the Italian vineyard the methods learned in Bordeaux, in the spirit of innovation that shaped modern viticulture, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. In 1958, Bertani established itself as a benchmark by launching a wine that became iconic, Amarone.
The vineyard
With 200 hectares located in the heart of the finest terroirs of Valpolicella around Verona, the Bertani estate produces wines that fully express the typicity of Veneto.
The wine
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is born on the great terroirs of Tenuta Novare. Nestled in the heart of the hills of the "Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC" appellation, near the village of Arbizzano di Negrar, Tenuta Novare is located in the province of Veneto, in northeastern Italy. The vines, averaging around twenty years old, rest on limestone and basalt soils.
Vinification and aging
Harvested at perfect maturity, the grape clusters are laid out to dry on bamboo racks, or "arele," for approximately 133 days. At the end of this drying process, which concludes in January, the berries concentrate aromas and sugars. The 8-year aging in oak barrels is followed by additional refinement of at least one year in bottle before release to market.
Grape varieties
The Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2016 from Bertani is a blend of corvina (80%) and rondinella (20%).
