Vinum

Grainy, compact, fleshy in style—reliable and well made.

Decanter

With a lot of upfront tannic bite, this definitely benefits from five minutes in the glass to show the cassis and charcoal notes. A bitter dark chocolate washes over the finish, again showing that these are big tannins.

James Suckling

Blackberry, blueberry, graphite, clove, tobacco and mahogany on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins. Very tight and refined with a mineral finish. Pretty finesse and focus. Second wine. Better from 2024.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Intense garnet, ochre reflections, broad and bright rim. An inviting bouquet, with a floral touch, fresh nuances of cassis and blackberries, background notes of candied orange zest. Juicy and elegant, with sweet berry fruits, ripe, somewhat brittle tannins and a touch of cassis on the long finish. Already approachable, a versatile food wine.

The second wine of Château d'Issan, the 2018 Blason D'Issan is another one of those great second wines that already offers pleasure. Lots of ripe black cherry and currant fruits as well as notes of cedary herbs and dried flowers emerge from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, with an elegant texture and plenty of classic Margaux complexity and nuance. It's ideal for drinking over the coming 10–12 years or so.

La RVF

Le Blason offers a gentle fruitiness and a well-integrated texture. To be enjoyed without rushing.

Le Figaro Vin

The nose is delicate, combining red fruits and flowers. The palate is supple and light, lifted by a lovely mouthwatering freshness.

Yves Beck

Subtle bouquet with spicy and fruity notes, a hint of black pepper, and blackberry nuances. Refined on the palate, where the wine is well supported by its tannins and the freshness of its structure. Fruity finish.

Description

The typicity of a great red wine from Margaux

The property
The Château d’Issan is a Bordeaux vintage renowned since the 12th century. It is part of history as one of those exceptional vintages served at the tables of kings and emperors. The Blason d’Issan, Second Wine of Château d’Issan was created in 1995.

The vineyard
The 59-hectare vineyard extends over three appellations. The majority is cultivated on the gravelly hills and alluvial hills of Margaux. The youngest vines grown on the Margaux terroir are the origin of Blason d’Issan.

The wine

A very beautiful reference of its appellation, the Second Wine of Château d’Issan – Blason d’Issan – offers the expression of a great red wine from Margaux.

The vintage
At Château d’Issan, a magnificent property on the left bank of Bordeaux, 2018 will remain in memory as a year marked by strong climatic contrasts. A rainy winter and spring were followed by very beautiful summer months with radiant sunshine until the harvest date. The alternation of warm days and cool nights favored an ideal maturity of the grape varieties.

Vinification and aging
The harvest thus began on September 24 with the Merlots and ended on October 11 with the Cabernets, allowing the collection of small berries, with a thick skin, presenting a magnificent fruit and tannins offering a beautiful silky texture. The "haute-couture" vinifications were conducted with the utmost respect for the fruit and the terroir, favoring very gentle pumping over.

Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (52%) and merlot (48%).
