Description
The aromatic richness and refinement of a great Argentine red wine by Catena Zapata
The estate
The pioneering Nicola Catena founded Bodega Catena Zapata in 1902, planting his first plots of Malbec within the exceptional vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina.
This family estate, in a constant quest for excellence, exprienced a new boom when it was taken over by Nicolás Catena Zapata in the 1960s. With the wish to revolutionise production methods for Argentine wines, Nicolás Catena Zapata is inspired by the vinification of Napa Valley wines and is revealing new, high-altitude terroirs to magnify the expression of the grape varieties.
Nicknamed "South America’s Grand Cru", Bodega Catena Zapata is a renowned international reference, recognised by critics for the finesse and elegance of its wines.
The vineyard
This Adrianna Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec 2018 cuvée by the bodega, Catena Zapata, is the first Malbec cru produced by the estate. Issued from a rigorous selection of grapes from the Adrianna vineyard, this cuvée bears the name of Nicolás Catena Zapata’s youngest daughter. Located at 1450 metres above sea level, this 1.4-hectare vineyard is characterised by its soil, made up of limestone and with alluvial origin.
The wine
The name of this cuvée also makes reference to the micro-organisms present in the layers of limestone, which help the vine roots to resist stress and to absorb the nutrients. These rhizobacteria are called "mundus bacillus terrae", or "elegant microbes of the earth".
Winemaking and ageing
Adrianna Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec 2018 is aged in French barrels for 18 months.
Blend
Adrianna Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec 2018 by Bodega Catena Zapata is 100% Malbec.
