Description

A red wine expressing with great authenticity the richness of Argentinia's fine terroirs

The producer

Located in Argentina in the Rio Negro region, Bodega Noemia was founded by two enthusiasts, Italian Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano and wine producer and Danish winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers. The acquisition and restructuring of the vineyard of an old wine estate founded in the 1930's made it possible to unveil in 2001 the first vintage of the estate, which achieved immediate success. Over the course of the vintages, Bodega Noemia has developed a range of wines with great finesse, from old vines planted in a mosaic of exceptional terroirs.

The wine

This cuvée J Alberto Malbec 2019 by Bodega Noemia is made from grapes harvested from a vineyard of 4 hectares planted in 1955, with north-south exposure and distributed across 5 plots, each with its own soil type (graves, sand, clay, limestone).

Cultivated with the principles of organic agriculture and biodynamics, this terroir stands out for its massal selection, in which each vine is genetically different from the other. Irrigation is carried out by flooding, as is traditionally practiced within this region.

The vintage

A wet winter preceded a moderate spring, punctuated with frost, which did not affect the vineyard. Flowering took place under good conditions, as did véraison. The shifts, in late summer, between warm days and cold nights, was ideal for the grapes to reach an optimal maturity. The harvest was carried out under brilliant weather conditions.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes were manually havested early in the morning to preserve the freshness of the fruit. The harvest date was defined separately for each plot, depending on soil type and ripeness level of the fruit. The harvested grapes were 60% de-stemmed. Parcel-by-parcel winemaking. Spontaneous fermentation without temperature control, without tartartaric adjustment and without added sulfur. A minimal intervention approach was followed, only a few délestage fermentations were carried out. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The aging process, which lasted 11 months, was carried out in ovoid casks in cement, stainless steel vats and French oak casks.

The blend

This cuvée J Alberto Malbec 2019 from Bodega Noemia blends Malbec (95%) and Merlot (5%).

Food and wine pairing

This fine Argentine wine will pair ideally with white meats, veal, game or white fish.

Serving

For an optimal tasting, serve between 14 and 16°C.
