Description
The estate
Bodegas Protos, a legend in Ribera del Duero, was founded in 1927. The winegrowers in this region in Spain united through a desire for solidarity, founding the first wineries in La Ribera - hence the name "Protos", which means "First" in Greek. Over time, Bodegas Protos acquired an international reputation through their exports all over the world. Having become a symbol of the Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Protos represent a perfect alchemy between a respect for tradition and the constant quest for innovation. Authentic, generous and superbly crafted, Protos crus embody Spanish wines which rank among the elite in the Ribera del Duero.
The vineyard
Bodegas Protos vineyards are located at the heart of the Ribera del Duero region in Peñafiel (Valladolid) and Anguix (Burgos). At the head of more than 1,400 hectares of vineyards, Protos strives to only produce great wines which represent the diversity of climates, terroirs and grape varieties in Ribera del Duero.
Reserva 2015 is made from south-facing vineyards located in the Burgos province. There, the vines are over 50 years old.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes begin their vinification process after the manual harvests. Firstly, they macerate cold before undergoing controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats for 21 days with daily stirring. Finally, the wine ages for 18 months in American and French oak barrels: 50% new French oak barrels, 30% American oak barrels of one previous wine and 20% in French oak barrels of one previous wine.

Colour
Reserva 2015 presents a dark cherry colour adorned with garnet borders.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet expresses the intensity of black fruits that are perfectly harmonised with liquorice, vanilla and spices alongside mineral and balsamic touches.
Palate
Reserva 2015 embodies a very balanced wine with a good level of acidity. Its fruity character extends up to the finish, which is persistent and harmonious at the same time.
Food and wine pairings
Reserva 2015 will enhance red meats, cold cuts and game. This cru is also the ideal companion for semi-mature cheeses.
Serving and keeping
For an optimal tasting, serve at between 16 and 18 degrees. We recommend that you decant this wine.
