Description

Tasting notes and advice for the Monthélie Village Domaine 2020 from Bouchard Père & Fils

Tasting

Appearance

The wine reveals a deep ruby-red hue with bright violet highlights.

Nose

The nose opens on aromas of fresh red fruits, notably cherry and raspberry, enhanced by floral notes of violet. Hints of sweet spices complete this elegant bouquet.

Palate

The attack is supple and silky, unveiling a perfectly balanced medium-bodied wine. Fine, delicate tannins integrate harmoniously into a round, refined texture. The fruity finish lingers with elegance.

Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs beautifully with red and white meats in sauce, roasted poultry, as well as mushroom-based dishes. It also goes very well with aged soft cheeses or more characterful cheeses such as Comté or Reblochon.

Serving and cellaring

The Monthélie Village Domaine 2020 can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2027. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C.

A sunny, well-balanced Pinot Noir from Côte de Beaune

The estate

Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest houses in Burgundy. The estate owns nearly one hundred hectares spread across more than one hundred parcels in the Côte d'Or, including prestigious Grands Crus such as Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. Owned by Artémis Domaines since 2022, under the general management of Jean-Marc Pistre, the estate underwent a major restructuring at the end of 2025 with the creation of Domaine des Cabottes, bringing together thirty-five hectares of the most iconic terroirs, including the famed Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus. Certified organic in 2025, the estate has definitively abandoned négociant activities to focus exclusively on its own properties.

The vineyard

The Monthélie vineyard lies between Volnay and Meursault, in the Côte de Beaune. This appellation benefits from a unique terroir characterized by clay-limestone soils that give the wines their hallmark finesse and elegance. The estate’s parcels are planted on well-exposed slopes, allowing Pinot Noir to reach optimal ripeness.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage in Burgundy stands out for its sunny, well-balanced character. Favorable weather conditions made it possible to obtain beautifully ripe grapes while preserving the freshness necessary for the wine’s balance. The concentration and the quality of the tannins bear witness to the excellence of this year.

Vinification and aging

The Monthélie Village Domaine 2020 is vinified with great care to preserve the expression of the fruit and the finesse of the tannins. Aging in oak barrels brings structure and complexity to the wine while respecting its elegant, refined character.
