A Case of First Classified Growths Unique to Bordeaux

For the first time in the history of Bordeaux wines, 5 First Classified Growth estates from the same appellation have come together to create a unique bottle, included in a case along with the 2016 vintage of the First Wine from each chateau.

A fresh breeze of innovation has blown through Sauternes in recent years, inspiring 5 First Growth Estates of the 1855 classification: Chateaux Sigalas Rabaud, Rayne Vigneau, Lafaurie-Peyraguey, La Tour Blanche and Rabaud-Promis. These great emblems of the famous Bordeaux appellation have relied on innovation to add a modern spark to their inimitable sweet wines. After a successful collaboration on the Sauternes 5-star crate, which was first released in February 2018, bringing together a bottle of the 2009 vintage from each property, the estates have decided to work together again to create this 5-star 5+.

These neighbouring properties in the Bommes commune have decided to create "a wine lover’s dream come true" and to present in a single blend all of the unique characteristics of their terroir. The project seemed complex at first, but the ideal blend took shape after the very first attempt to blend, the simplest solution and the one that worked best: a blend of 1/5th of each First Wine from the 2016 vintage.

The 5+ case showcases the dynamic bond between these great Sauternes estates, as well as the differences between them, through a concentrated expression of the great terroirs of Bommes. Displaying a beautifully bright colour in the glass, the 5+ Sauternes 2016 reveals a great purity and elegance in a complex bouquet of mangoes, grapefruits, pears and flowers (linden). On the palate, the balance between power, generosity and freshness, so crucial to a great Sauternes, is impeccable.

This innovative case is a true rarity indeed.
