Owned by the Sogrape Group, one of the most important Portuguese wine producers, Casa Ferreirinha is synonymous with one word: outstanding. Founded in the 18th century by Bernardo Ferreira, the house is renowned for its in-depth knowledge of the Douro vineyards and for the quality of its wines. Casa Ferreirinha was the first winery in Portugal to produce non-fortified Douro red wines.
This 2018 Quinta Da Leda from Casa Ferreirinha is a fine Douro wine. With its complexity and elegance, this Portuguese red wine is one of the finest references in the Casa Ferreirinha range.
The winter was cold and dry. The heavy rainfall during spring had an impact on the flowering and led to a sanitary pressure on the vineyard, resulting in low yields. Despite hot and dry summer conditions, water stress was minimal thanks to sufficient water reserves. The grapes harvested boast a high quality.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and are first sorted in the vineyard and at the entrance to the winery. Destemming and soft crushing precede the vinification in stainless steel tanks. Long and gentle maceration to optimise extraction. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new). Bottled without filtration.
Touriga Franca (41%)
Touriga Nacional (34%)
Tinto Cão (13%)
Tinta Roriz (12%)
The wine is a beautiful deep ruby colour.
Complex, the nose reveals a rich aromatic palette. Floral (cistus), balsamic and fruity fragrances blend with notes of resin, cedar, tobacco box, spices (pepper, curry) and stones.
Ample and lively, the palate is seduced by this wine’s fine tannins and perfectly integrated woody aromas. Red fruit and spice aromas stretch to a long and harmonious finish.
Enjoy now, this Douro red wine can be cellared until around 2024.
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to decant the wine before serving it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C.
