The estate
Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, a cooper by trade, Champy is Burgundy’s oldest négociant house. Based in Beaune, it farms 21 hectares of vineyards on the Côte de Beaune, stretching from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. Led since 1990 by Pierre Meurgey and his family, Champy stands out for its exceptional heritage, with 15th-century cellars and an Eiffel-style winery dating from 1900. A pioneer, the House notably worked with Louis Pasteur on the pasteurization of wines.
The vineyard
This Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru "Creux de la Net" comes from one of the seven climats classified as Premier Cru within the appellation, located in the north of the Côte de Beaune, on the slopes of Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune. This climat spans 17.60 hectares and benefits from clay-limestone soils particularly suited to expressing Chardonnay. The vineyard is managed under certified organic farming.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Creux de la Net" 2015 are harvested by hand. Traditional winemaking follows the biodynamic calendar, with barrel fermentation carried out using natural yeasts. Aging takes place over 12 months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
This white wine from Burgundy is made from Chardonnay.
