Description
The finesse and balance of a Second Wine from Pauillac
The Estate
The Libéral family ran Château Haut-Bages Libéral from the beginning of the 18th century. Over time, these discerning connoisseurs gathered the best terroirs of Pauillac. Today, this Pauillac Grand Cru has belonged to the Villars family since 1983, who restored Château Haut-Bages Libéral to its former glory by completely overhauling the winemaking facilities and orienting the vineyard management towards sustainable viticulture.
The Vineyard
Certified in organic farming since 2019, Château Haut-Bages Libéral received its biodynamic certification in 2021. The 30 hectares of vines are cultivated on Gunzian Garonne gravel over a clay-limestone subsoil.
The Wine
La Chapelle de Haut-Bages is the Second Wine of Château Haut-Bages Libéral. This Pauillac wine is produced from a vineyard area with clay-limestone gravel soils surrounding the estate as well as a vineyard on the Bages plateau, known for its deep gravel soils.
Vinification and Aging
Plot-by-plot vinification. Maceration with the addition of neutral gas to allow for gentle movement. Daily pumping over. 24-day maceration. Aging takes place for 12 months in barrels (50%, of which 10% are new) and in oval tanks (50%).
Blend
La Chapelle de Haut-Bages Libéral 2022 is the result of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (72%) and Merlot (28%).
