The estate

The name Château Batailley refers to the Hundred Years' War, a battle of which was fought in 1453 on the estate's land. Château Batailley became a wine estate in the 17th century. This 5th Cru Classé in 1855 is produced in the Pauillac appellation, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank.  

The vineyard

This Château Batailley 2022 is a Pauillac wine from a 60-hectare vineyard, where vines are planted on silica and gravel soils.

The wine

This 2022 vintage has a label that pays tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; the Château Batailley 1947 vintage was tasted at her silver wedding anniversary with Prince Philip.

The vintage

A particularly dry winter preceded a spring in which an intense frost episode at the beginning of April spared the vineyard. In mid-May, flowering was rapid and uniform. Alternating heat, rain and thunderstorms, the month of June gave way to a very hot and dry summer. 2022 was thus recognised as the hottest year since 1947. Concentrated and small in size, the berries revealed great quality and a beautiful aromatic richness. Despite the low yields, this 2022 vintage seduces with its deep colour and ideally concentrated aromas.

Winemaking and ageing

The wine is aged exclusively in barrels (55% new, 45% one wine).

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (22%) and Petit Verdot (3%).

Colour
The wine is a beautiful dark colour.

Nose
Intense, the nose gives off intense fruity (black fruit), spicy and organic fragrances.
