A great Pauillac wine combining finesse and precision

The property

The Château d'Armailhac, located in Pauillac in the Bordeaux wine region, is a historic estate whose origins date back to the 14th century. Acquired by the Rothschild family in 1933, it is now run by the third generation, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, as well as Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild. The vineyard extends over 80 hectares, with a grape variety dominated by cabernet sauvignon. This estate stands out for its complex terroir of gravel and clay, as well as for its approach perpetuating a prestigious wine heritage.

The vineyard

The Château d'Armailhac vineyard extends over 80 hectares in production in Pauillac, benefiting from an exceptional terroir composed of light and deep gravels, typical of the great crus of the appellation. The vines, with an average age of 40 years, are planted on these gravelly soils which promote excellent drainage and optimal ripening of the grapes. This combination of terroir and exposure allows for wines that are both powerful and elegant, characteristic of the great Pauillac.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage began with a mild winter with abundant precipitation, followed by an early bud break at the end of March, a week ahead of average. After a relatively dry April, May brought significant rains with cool temperatures and moderate sunshine, increasing the pressure of mildew. Flowering and fruit set were marked by phenomena of shatter and millerandage on the early merlots and cabernets. The mild summer gradually established a favorable water deficit, allowing for a harvest beginning on September 25 and ending in early October.

Vinification and aging

For Château d'Armailhac 2024, the grapes were carefully selected and vinified plot by plot. After fermentation, the wine underwent an aging period of 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new. This aging period allows the wine to develop its aromatic complexity while preserving the freshness of the fruit and refining the tannic structure.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (72%), complemented by equal proportions of merlot (14%) and cabernet franc (14%).
