A Voluptuous and Precise Margaux with Class
True to the saying that "great terroirs look toward water," the property is located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary and enjoys an exceptional terroir. A true rarity in the Medoc, Château d’Issan is surrounded by a stone wall erected in the seventeenth century. All these elements give the property a particular microclimate and geology that have protected the vineyard from the frost that affected the Bordeaux wine region at the end of April 2017.
The vegetative cycle of the vine was thus able to continue under the best climatic conditions until the harvest, which was the earliest since 2003. Made from fruit picked in an excellent sanitary state, fresh and fully ripe tannins, the 2017 presents all the criteria of a successful vintage.
With its blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) and complemented by Merlot (35%), the Château d'Issan 2017 opens with a bouquet of great concentration, revealing the perfect maturity of the fruit. Amidst the notes of cassis and plum, and delicate fragrances of dried flowers, one finds all the elegance and the distinction of a classy Margaux wine. On the palate, the attack caresses, revealing all the crunchiness and freshness of the fruit, while the silky tannins endow the wine with an enveloping touch so unique to Margaux. Presenting a beautiful length, the wine finishes with a freshness underlined by great minerality. A great Margaux, faithful to the identity of its exceptional terroir, one that will develop its finesse and complexity after 5 to 10 years of care.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 D'Issan (a tentative blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot) opens with crushed blueberries and black plums notes with hints of cassis, licorice and violets. Medium-bodied with a firm and finely grained frame, it has oodles of freshness lifting the ripe black and blue fruits to a long, perfumed finish.
