Characteristics and tasting advice for Château d’Yquem 1981
Tasting
Colour
A beautiful and bright gold colour.
Nose
The nose elegantly exudes refreshing fragrances of aromatic herbs (thyme, bay leaf, mint, fennel).
Palate
Its creaminess suggests the exceptional ageing potential of this cuvée.
A delicate and beautifully complex Sauternes wine
The estate
Located south of Bordeaux, the Château d'Yquem is one of the most prestigious references among the great Sauternes wines. This legendary Premier Cru Classé Supérieur benefits from an exceptional terroir and produces globally sought-after sweet wines.
The vineyard
Château d’Yquem is an extraordinary place, nestled in the heart of the hills of the Sauternes appellation, boasting a hundred hectares of vineyards planted on a mosaic of gravelly-sandy terroirs.
The vintage
The mild weather in the early months of the year favours early and uniform bud break and flowering. A relatively dry summer is followed by a September marked by rainfall that promotes the appearance of botrytis.
Blend
Sémillon
Sauvignon blanc.
