Description
Château de Fargues 2014: a powerful, dense and tense Sauternes
The Château de Fargues is a white wine from the Sauternes appellation. The vineyard is planted with Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The ageing is done in barrels (40% new oak) for 30 months.
At Château de Fargues, the 2014 vintage had complicated weather conditions, which have always been one of the worst fears of the estate. Fortunately, the warm autumn saved the vintage. Although production was low with only 11,000 bottles, it is of very high quality. When Château de Fargues releases a vintage, it is a guarantee of quality because mediocre years are not bottled. The harvest took place from September 15 to October 30 with 4 selections staggered throughout the harvest.
At tasting, the Château de Fargues 2014 develops fruity scents (pressed apple, apple-pear compote, poached pear, greengage plum), which blend beautifully with fresh and subtle floral (lily-of-the-valley) and marine notes. We can also notice subtle touches of resin, which is a feature of young wines from Château de Fargues. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, dense and fresh. The palate first reveals citrus and grapefruit zest flavours before unveiling its tastiness, freshness and lovely acidity along with rhubarb, pineapple, lemon confit and sweet, juicy peach. Finally, we can feel the charms of sweet and delicate white flowers (jasmine) and fresh apricot. This wine is wonderfully balanced between sweetness and acidity. The Château Fargues 2014 is powerful, dense and incredibly tense wine.
