Description
A Pomerol wine with silky tannins and a remarkable structure
The estate
Founded in 1687 under the name Domaine de Fazilleau then renamed Château L'Évangile in the following century, this prestigious Bordeaux estate thrives on the Pomerol plateau. Acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite in 1990 and now managed by Saskia de Rothschild, it derives its uniqueness from its exceptional terroir of sandy clay soils enriched with sandstone and iron pan, a rare feature in the appellation that allows the production of exceptional wines.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château L'Évangile extends over sandy clay soils with the presence of gravel and a subsoil rich in iron pan, giving this terroir of Pomerol a unique identity. Situated in a privileged position between the prestigious Château Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, the estate benefits from an exceptional microclimate conducive to the optimal ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
While April, May and June were marked by high humidity, impacting flowering and causing shatter, the summer conditions were more favourable.
Blend
This Château L'Évangile 2024 is the result of a blend of 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
