Description
A Sauternes wine imbued with finesse and complexity
The estate
Founded in 1618 by Raymond Peyraguey, the Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is an iconic Sauternes wine. This Premier Cru Classé of 1855 has belonged to Silvio Denz since 2014, who continues to modernize the estate while preserving its centuries-old heritage.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey covers 18 hectares in the heart of the Sauternes appellation. The vines, located in Bommes, benefit from an exceptional terroir that allows the optimal development of botrytis cinerea, this noble fungus essential to the production of great sweet Sauternes wines.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage stood out for its particularly challenging climatic conditions, marked by high humidity and significant downy mildew pressure. Despite these difficulties, rigorous vineyard management yielded a healthy harvest. The harvest was carried out in three successive passes (tries) over a period of one month. Each pass benefited from a weather cycle favorable to the development of botrytis: rains followed by warm, dry and windy periods, then a few days of fine weather for picking.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation took place over 20 days in 225-liter French oak barrels. Aging then continued for 9 months in these same French oak barrels, followed by an additional 9 months in stainless steel tanks. This two-stage aging method combines the complexity contributed by the wood with the preservation of the wine’s freshness and aromas.
Grape variety
The Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2024 is a 100% Sémillon.
