The property
Founded in 1252, the Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux, located in Pessac, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. This 60-hectare vineyard, 53 of which are dedicated to red wines, has been managed by Bernard Magrez since 1985. The estate stands out for its historical link with Pope Clement V and its exceptional gravelly soil. Under the direction of Michel Rolland, consulting oenologist, the château stands out for its rigorous viticultural practices and a forward-looking vision.
The vineyard
The 6 hectares dedicated to the production of Château Pape Clément Blanc 2024 rest on a Pessac-Léognan terroir characterized by a layer of Pyrenean clayey gravels. This unique geological composition gives the wine its distinctive minerality and aromatic complexity.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage was marked by a cool and wet winter and spring. The summer proved to be hot and dry, offering ideal conditions for the maturation of the grapes. The harvest took place from September 5 to 20, allowing for the harvesting of perfectly ripe grapes, thus preserving freshness and balance.
Vinification and aging
Aging 50% in barrels (including a third of new wood), 40% in vats and 10% in various containers (sandstone, concrete, stainless steel). This approach allows to bring complexity and nuances to the wine while preserving its freshness.
Blend
50% sauvignon blanc, bringing freshness and vivacity, 43% sémillon, contributing to the structure and creaminess, and 7% sauvignon gris, which adds an additional aromatic dimension.
