Vinum

A bouquet balancing maturity and freshness, deep and complex, blackberries, orange zest, redcurrants, herbal spice; on the palate powerful, forceful, creamy, despite its opulence with elegance and an uplifting freshness; very good length, milk chocolate on the finish. Will be enjoyable early, can age.

This is a bit exotic, with a flash of black truffle amid its mix of violet, ink, blackberry compote and warmed plum sauce notes. A long spine of cast iron gives this definition and serious length, with tobacco, chestnut and anise hints filtering through for added range. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2026 through 2040.

Decanter

Lovely aromatics on the nose, bright berry fruit with dried herbs, tobacco liquorice and aniseed scents. Supple and velvety, this has a creamy touch to the palate with a crisp minerality that leaves a fresh feeling. It's still a little tense, with oak notes evident that just detract from a sense of easy enjoyment, covering the juicy fruit and causing some restriction in terms of energy but there's nice sculpting and it has a dose of Pomerol glamour in the underlying power.

Blackberries and blueberries, ash and cedar are prevalent on the nose, flowing through to a medium body with a beautiful center palate and curated tannins that run the length of the wine. The texture and mouthfeel are exceptional, as are the freshness and focus on the finish. Very balanced. Drink after 2029 and beyond.

The 2022 Petit-Village turned out beautifully. Elegant and polished to the core, the 2022 is a Pomerol of refinement. Crushed flowers, spice, new leather, cedar, mint and espresso are all beautifully delineated. Silky, polished tannins bring it all together on the vibrant finish. The 2022 spent 14 months in French oak, 45% new, with some alternative vessels thrown into the mix. The oak is very well integrated here, more so than it is in Beauregard, with which it shares ownership and the winemaking team.

Smoke, licorice, chocolate-coated plums, and cherries with a nice floral note create the perfume. The elegant, silky palate displays its lift and energy with ease, making it easy to enjoy its sweet, ripe, silky red and black pit fruits. The wine blends 65% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2027-2050.

The 2022 Château Petit-Village is 70% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, offering red fruits, spice, and graphite alongside beautifully integrated oak. Medium to full-bodied, it has elegant floral notes, seamless purity, and ultra-fine tannins. Not massive, but wonderfully refined, it shares a stylistic similarity with Conseillante but leans more into red fruits. Aged for 15 months in 45% new oak barrels, this will drink well for 30+ years.

Weinwisser

65% Merlot, 28% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 hl/ha, pH 3.85, 14% vol. Densely interwoven red-berry bouquet, wild strawberry, blackcurrant nectar, dried rose petals and delicate graphite notes. On the trained, cascading palate with a silky texture, balanced verve, wonderful extract richness and a noble mineral core. In the concentrated, long-lasting finish, wild cherry, tarragon, profound terroir spice and floury astringency.

Increasingly impressed with this wine over recent vintages; heavy spice and smoked earth close things down a little, but there is plenty of cassis and pomegranate fruit, enjoyable. 45% new oak, 5% of 500l oak casks, 30hl/ha yield, final year in organic conversion.

Le Figaro Vin

Slightly monolithic nose, driven by generous fruit, dominated by plum, with a subtle freshness that lifts it. On the palate, superb vitality asserts itself. Suave, expressive, refined, agile, the wine reveals lovely toasty and floral nuances that add to its complexity. Very complete, with a complex, pleasantly bitter finish.

The opening, on the nose, is delightful! The bouquet brilliantly showcases its charm, with a highly convincing harmony of notes of dark berries (blackcurrant, blueberry), cocoa powder, violets, and, finally, a hint of graphite. On the palate, the wine is imposing from the outset. The serenity it displays is stunning—almost disconcerting—yet so conducive to pure enjoyment! In this realm that borders on seduction, it was important to rely on tannins that tame their austerity, thus counterbalancing the perhaps overly insistent charm at the start. Since the finish is what matters most, it’s the outcome of this harmony that proves convincing, even dazzling. A truly beautiful wine. Wise bets were placed on pertinent choices and crucial, delicate decisions, with trust in the terroir and the teams (including growers and winemakers) who crafted a Petit-Village worthy of the exceptional level this estate can achieve. And above all, by focusing on finesse—the terroir’s greatest delight—that’s what it’s here for. Thank you for listening to it.

Vertdevin

Lovely fresh, intense, fruity, airy nose, offering restrained power and a certain straightness. We find notes of dense blackberry, Cubeb pepper and, more subtly, fresh spices, joined by pretty touches of cocoa/mokka, small fresh/bright fruits, hints of infusion and a discreet touch of pepper. The palate is beautifully mineral, fresh, candid and balanced, with straightness, tension, precision, a mineral backbone, lovely structure and a charmingly airy, focused character. On the palate, this wine delivers notes of juicy/fresh blackberry, dense/fresh small black fruits and, more subtly, roasted cherry, joined by a touch of cornflower, blue plum, hints of plum blossom, mocha and incense, as well as an almost smoky note, toast and toasted hazelnut. Good length. The tannins are powdery and elegant. A lovely shimmering, savoury side!

Dark, intense, purple color. Highly aromatic nose with ripe fruit. A fleshy wine throughout its progression, evolving on a meticulous and flavorful texture toward a long finish with enveloped tannins.

Description

The freshness and elegance of a Pomerol red wine

The estate

Château Petit-Village is located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.  Founded in 1780, the château has belonged to the Moulin family, who also own the majority of Château Beauregard, since the beginning of 2020.

The vineyard

Château Petit-Village is a Pomerol wine made from a historic vineyard of 10.5 hectares in a single block. This triangle-shaped vineyard is planted on a clay gravel terroir at the highest point of the oldest terrace in the appellation. Certified organic since 2020, the vines on this terroir are on average 35 years old.

The vintage

A mild, dry winter preceded a spring with relatively high temperatures. Budburst on 22 March was followed by flowering beginning on 18 May. The hot, dry summer led to the grapes ripening on 8 July.

Winemaking and ageing

A meticulous selection and successive sorting are carried out manually on the plot, mechanically under the destemmer and densimetric sorting, then manually on the sorting table. After harvesting, the grapes are put into cold storage (6°C). Vinification is carried out on a plot-by-plot basis in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Cold pre-fermentation maceration is followed by alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels for the best Merlot vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in barrels (45% of which are new) and 500-litre casks (5%).

Blend

Merlot (65%)
Cabernet Franc (28%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (7%).
