Marks and reviews
An 1855 Second Cru Classé, Château Rauzan-Ségla is one of those prestigious Bordeaux wines whose history has been writting itself for over 400 years. During its never-ending search for excellence, Château Rauzan-Ségla is attentive to its vineyard and is gradually modernising its infrastructures in order to perfect, from one vintage to another, the production of one of the finest Margaux wines.
The vines are 30 years old on average and cover 66 hectares. In the heart of the Margaux appellation, the vineyard of Château Rauzan-Ségla is located close to the Gironde Estuary, on the fine, deep clay gravel that characterise this terroir.
Exceptional weather conditions marked this 2016 vintage by Château Rauzan-Ségla. A mild and particularly rainy winter preceded a wet and cool spring. Following a hot and very dry summer, a mild autumn season and a stormy spell allowed the grapes to reach a perfect ripeness before the harvest was carried out which took place from September 20th to October 15th.
Vinification and ageing
Hand-picked plot-by-plot harvesting. Vinification by plot and within the plot with gravity-fed vatting in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Château Rauzan-Ségla 2016 is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.
Cabernet Sauvignon (68%)
Petit Verdot (2%).
The nose combines aromas of black fruits (Morello cherries, blackberries) and spices (pink peppercorns). Complex, it reveals balsamic, roasted and smoky notes to which are added subtle scents of violet, mint and chocolate.
Complex and dense, the palate is very precise and reveals a beautiful tension. This well-balanced wine reveals a firm, full-body with fine, precise tannins.
