Description
Casa Lapostolle reveals an elegant and aromatic fine red wine from Chile
The estate
Located in the magnificent valley of Colchaga, Clos Apalta Casa Lapostolle has become one of the most famous estates in Chile. The microclimate in Clos Apalta, coupled with a retained know-how, is this the keystone for the birth of exceptional artisan wines.
The vineyard
The vineyard lies upon an exceptional terroir, covering 60 hectares of vines, some of which are over 80 years old.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage was one of the coldest in Chile in the 21st century. The cool and rainy winter in 2017 ensured sufficient water reserves within the soils. The mild temperatures, as well as a good level of brightness during spring, encouraged an optimal flowering as the moderate temperatures from December 2017 to mid-February 2018 allowed for the berries’ gradual and high-quality fruit set and ripening. Although the second half of February was marked by a sharp rise in temperatures, accelerating ripening notably for early-ripening grape varieties, the coolness recorded in March encouraged sugars to slowly accumulate without any loss of acidity, ensuring a good balance. The low level of rainfall in autumn allowed the grapes to be harvested in fully ripe conditions. Generous and healthy, the harvest gave rise to a vintage of great quality, aromatic with a moderate level of alcohol and a beautiful freshness.
Blend
Clos Apalta 2018 Casa Lapostolle is made from a blend of Carménère (64%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Merlot (18%).
