A Powerful and Structured Cornas by Delas
Produced by Maison Delas Frères, a key reference among the great wines of the Northern Rhône Valley, the Chante Perdrix 2014 presents the true character of the Cornas appellation through a wine with a remarkable quality-price ratio.
This is a single-varietal wine paying tribute to the region's favorite grape variety, Syrah. The Chante Perdrix Cuvée 2014 by Delas is the perfect illustration of the power of wines from the Northern Rhône. Wine from different parcels have been blended to express the characteristics of this terroir: loamy soils upon very steep slopes, terraced with dry stone walls.
In the glass, this Cornas Chante Perdrix 2014 by Delas displays a deep and intense garnet red colour. The aromatic palette expresses the power typical of great wines from the Rhône Valley. In its youth, the aromas of black fruits (cassis) dominate. Ageing over the years leads to an evolution of various other fragrances. The imprint of Syrah is left through peppery, spicy and liquorice notes. On the palate, the terroir of Cornas is expressed through a great, robust structure and a tannic frame that softens with age. The minerality of the terroir also appears in the finish, which ends with a very persistent length. A very beautiful Cornas, already quite expressive but promising to evolve superbly up to 2030.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The only Cornas release in this stacked lineup is the 2014 Cornas Chante Perdrix (100% Syrah from the Reynard, Champelrose and St. Romain lieux-dits), which has lots of spice and gamey notions, with ample fruit, crushed rock-like minerality, medium to full body and ripe tannin. It shows the more meaty, gamey side of the appellation and has a great finish.
