The intensity and elegance of a red Hermitage wine
The estate
Founded in 1835, Maison Delas Frères stands as a benchmark for wines from the Northern Rhône Valley. Its acquisition by Champagne House Deutz in 1977 opened a new era, then its international expansion accelerated after its purchase in 1993 by the Rouzaud family, majority shareholder of the Louis Roederer group.
The vineyard
Maison Delas Frères cultivates a vineyard spread across three emblematic appellations of the Rhône Valley: Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage and Saint-Joseph. To enhance the identity of each terroir, vinifications and aging are conducted on a parcel-by-parcel basis.
The wine
Domaine des Tourettes 2020 by Delas is an Hermitage made from grapes sourced from three areas of the Drôme (Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage). This wine-growing area is distinguished by predominantly south-facing exposures and a mosaic of granite sand soils covered with mica schist, gneiss and alluvial pebbles.
Vinification and aging
The harvests, manual and parcel-based, are carried out at perfect maturity. A two-day cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes traditional vinification in open concrete vats. Fermentation, at controlled temperature (28-30°C), is accompanied by punching down and pumping over for about ten days. The vatting lasts approximately 20 days. After draining and pressing, malolactic fermentation and then aging take place in oak barrels.
Grape variety
Syrah (100%).
