Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Riesling Grand Cru "Kitterlé" Élément Terre 2022 from Dirler-Cadé

Tasting

Appearance
The wine displays a brilliant pale yellow hue, characteristic of great Alsatian rieslings.

Nose
The bouquet reveals itself as subtle and precise, unveiling notes of fresh citrus accompanied by smoky and mineral nuances. The aromatic expression also evokes root-like flavors that testify to the wine's deep anchoring in its sandstone and volcanic terroir.

Palate
The attack offers a fleshy softness that quickly gives way to a vigorous mineral tension. The palate shows itself energetic and dynamic, carried by a vivifying and harmonious acidity. The texture reveals itself as almost granular, tactile, with a beautiful salinity that crosses the palate. The finish expresses itself with clarity and precision, punctuated by a persistent licorice note. This dry wine, endowed with remarkable concentration, is destined for long aging.

Food and wine pairings

This riesling grand cru ideally accompanies Arctic char fillet, salmon trout tartare, or a platter of oysters. Its mineral tension and freshness make it a partner of choice for freshwater fish and seafood.

Service and cellaring

The Riesling Grand Cru "Kitterlé" Élément Terre 2022 should be enjoyed at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. Its structure and concentration give it aging potential allowing it to be kept until approximately 2032.

A Grand Cru from Alsace with mineral and smoky character

The estate

Founded in 1871 from the union of the Dirler and Hell-Cadé families, Domaine Dirler-Cadé perpetuates five generations of viticultural expertise in Alsace. Jean Dirler and his wife Ludivine today manage 18 hectares of vines, nearly half of which are classified as Grand Cru, notably on the Saering and Kitterlé terroirs. Pioneers of biodynamics since 1998 and founding members of Biodyvin, they mainly cultivate riesling, gewurztraminer, muscat, and pinot gris according to a "natural wines, beautiful wines" philosophy, producing cuvées of remarkable mineral concentration.

The vineyard

The Grand Cru Kitterlé is located in Guebwiller, in Alsace, on very steep terroir with east and southeast exposure. The 21-year-old vines rest on a sandstone substrate and volcanic sediments, forming a sandy soil poor in clay. This particular geological configuration, combined with deliberately limited yields, gives the wine its characteristic smoky and mineral expression. The estate practices plowing of all vines and applies biodynamic preparations, complemented by willow, nettle, and meadowsweet teas, as well as horsetail decoctions.

Vinification and aging

The Riesling Grand Cru "Kitterlé" Élément Terre 2022 is vinified according to methods respectful of the fruit and terroir. After manual harvesting and sorting in the vineyard, the whole clusters are pressed in a pneumatic press. Settling is carried out statically and naturally, without intervention. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, thus preserving the aromatic purity of the grape variety. Aging on fine lees continues for 11 months, bringing complexity and texture to the wine.

100% riesling.
