Alsace

Alsace image

Formed in 1962, the Alsace appellation produces mainly white wines (Auxerrois, Chasselas, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Muscat Ottonel, Pinot Blanc, Pinot, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sylvaner), which account for 90% of the total production. However, red wines (Pinot Noir) and rosés (Pinot Noir) are also produced here. The Alsace appellation, which is 120 km long and around 1 to 3 km wide, is divided into 119 communes in the Lower Rhine and Upper Rhine. The vineyards are located on average between 200 and 400 meters above sea level. They benefit from a semi-continental climate and soils consisting of schist, granite, sandstone, colluvial cones, alluvial soils, sandy gravel, limestone and marl. The wines of the Alsace appellation tend to be fresh, intensely aromatic, with a beautiful volume and a great length on the palate.
