Description
The perfect balance between acidity and intensity of a generous and elegant Graves Great Classified Growth
The estate
Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, the magnificent Domaine de Chevalier is one of the greatest Classified Growths of Bordeaux. This iconic estate of the Pessac-Léognan appellation is located in a verdant setting south of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
Domaine de Chevalier overlooks a rare vineyard comprising 7 hectares of white vines. A true mosaic of terroirs, the Domaine de Chevalier vineyard is planted on soils of black sand and fine white gravel, resting on a well drained gravelly-clayey subsoil.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage was marked by a harvest of exceptional quality and perfectly ripe grapes. The year was characterised by its early flowering and harvests due to the particularly sunny weather. Indeed, the vineyard benefited from abundant rain in spring before going through a hot and dry summer, bringing the berries to an ideally ripe state.
Winemaking and ageing
Manual harvests in crates, 3 to 5 sorts are carried out to keep only the best berries of the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grape varieties. The grapes are then slowly pressed for 3 hours. Settling and alcoholic fermentation are carried out in barrels. Finally, the wine ages for 18 months in 35% new barrels with stirring of the lees.
Blend
Sauvignon Blanc (70%), Sémillon (30%).
Tasting
Colour
The 2020 Domaine de Chevalier is a beautiful, pale gold colour, with bright reflections.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet conveys a flowery and fruity intensity, with extreme finesse and a great freshness. Vineyard peach, mango, apricot and star anise reveal the beauty of their expression in a bouquet of hawthorn and acacia flowers, highlighted by honeysuckle.
Palate
The 2020 Domaine de Chevalier is a delicious, generous and lively wine. The refined and silky tannins meet with a perfect state of ripening and very delicate aromas. The balance between acidity and intense concentation in the cuvée is impressive. The long finish marks a wine in which elegance is matched only by finesse.
