The estate
Domaine des Lambrays in Burgundy was founded in 1868 in its current configuration by Albert-Sébastien Rodier in Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte-d'Or. Under the technical direction of Jacques Devauges, this historic estate with medieval origins stands out for its quasi-monopole Grand Cru Clos des Lambrays, spread over three distinct Climats. The luxury group LVMH acquired the estate in 2014 with the mission of ensuring its continuity, notably through high-precision plot-by-plot work, organic certification, and the ongoing conversion to biodynamics, as well as the renovation of the cellars and the acquisition of new plots in 2021.
The vineyard
"Les Beaux Monts" comes from a 0.45-hectare plot in Vosne-Romanée in the Lieu-dit "Beaux Monts Hauts", located in the upper part of the eponymous Climat. This terroir, totaling 11.64 hectares, is located north of Vosne-Romanée towards Clos de Vougeot. The vines have a remarkable average age: 50% of the vineyard is 60 years old and 50% is 30 years old.
The vintage
The 2023 vegetative cycle began with early bud break on April 7 in Vosne-Romanée, three days earlier than average. Flowering occurred favorably on the Côte de Nuits around June 7, followed by rainfall beneficial for fruit set. The warm summer in July and August, punctuated by regular rainfall, favored berry growth and optimal ripeness. A significant green harvest at the end of July and careful bunch-by-bunch thinning allowed for a controlled yield of 35 hL/ha during the harvest on September 12 under bright sunshine.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking for the Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Beaux Monts" 2023 is carried out entirely by gravity using 40% whole bunches and indigenous yeasts. Alcoholic fermentation takes place for three weeks in wooden vats, followed by 16 months of aging in oak barrels, 40% of which are new.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy.
